Protecting employees from the danger of Legionella – case study
At EEUK, one of our specialities is water hygiene. Our team of experts have a track record of preventing Legionella in the workplace and have done for thousands of businesses across the UK, including a client we recently won a water hygiene contract for.
We started out by carrying out their Legionella risk assessment, which is extremely important to stop the possible spread of legionella bacteria in water systems. Legionella bacteria can cause a serious type of pneumonia called Legionnaires’ disease which can result in respiratory failure, acute kidney and multi-organ failure. To identify the risks from Legionella, an assessment should be conducted, which our team do for clients across the UK, including this new client.
Throughout the year, we’ve also completed the remedial works for the client, including two cold water storage tanks at one of their largest sites. By using ZetaSafe to record results, we can time sample, add photos and free-type comments, which helps our engineers to say exactly what they see on site. We provide the client with an e-water hygiene logbook too, which keeps their records easy to find in one place.
We pride ourselves on open and clear communication, and believe it’s important to keep our clients in the know. That is shown with our new client – we have frequent meetings with the site manager to keep them up to date and to answer any questions they may have.
Legionella bacteria can lurk anywhere, from offices and hospitals to hotels and restaurants, so if you’re in charge of health and safety at your business, make sure you get a Legionella risk assessment carried out regularly.
