Our charity work

As a business, we raise money as often as we can for causes we care about. We encourage our employees to put forward charities that are close to their hearts and then we do what we can to support them. We have a dedicated charity committee who organise fundraising activities regularly and we’re always thinking of new ways to support brilliant causes.

Here is some of the charity work we’ve done recently.

Alice Charity – Easter Egg Appeal

Alice Charity supports families in need across Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme. They are usually the last resort for desperate, local families who have no one else to turn to. The Alice Charity help to empower the families by giving them the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty. It was founded by mother-daughter duo, Steph and Emily, in 2011 in response to the lack of available support for disadvantaged local families.

To help the charity, we did an Easter egg collection in the office. 86 Easter eggs in total were donated to the charity who passed them on to disadvantaged children in the area. We were delighted to put a smile on some children’s faces at Easter and make a small difference to their lives.

Dougie Mac 5K My Way

The Dougie Mac Hospice provides all hospice services free of charge to over 3,500 patients with life-limiting illnesses in Stoke-on-Trent every year. The charity care for adults living with cancer and other life limiting illnesses such as motor neurone disease and incurable lung diseases. Following a recent merger with the Donna Louise charity, they now care for children too.

Some of our team took part in Dougie Mac’s 5K My Way challenge where people run, jog, cycle or walk 5K to help raise funds for the charity. People could choose whether they wanted to take part in groups or on their own. Overall we raised £360!

Amy Harrison, our Quality and Compliance Manager, said: “I loved taking part in the Dougie Mac 5K My Way challenge. As well as raising money for a fantastic charity, the challenge encouraged me to be more active.”

Wear it Pink for Breast Cancer

The team wore pink for a day in the office to raise money for people affected by cancer. By doing something so simple, we raised nearly £200!

To increase contribution, we also did a ‘Guess it Pink’ sweepstake, where people had to guess how many pink microscopes there were in an image and donate £2 to take part.

The Donna Louise Hospice

Last Christmas jumper day we raised £113 for the Donna Louise Hospice for Children and Young People. The charity provides specialist care and support services for children with life-shortening conditions due to illness or injury, from birth until they are no longer needed. By wearing a Christmas jumper, we helped to support a life-changing charity.

Red Nose Day

Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day helps to raise money for people across the UK and around the world who live in poverty. Comic Relief aim to drive positive change through the power of entertainment and depend on donations to make a difference to peoples’ lives in the UK and across the world.

They focus on improving mental health support and tackling stigma as well as making sure people have the shelter and food they need to survive, plus many other things.

Since Comic Relief began, they have helped support 105.6 million people – that’s 14.3 million people across the UK and 91.3 million people internationally.

We recently raised nearly £250 on Red Nose Day and couldn’t be prouder to help such a great cause.

Dress down day

Every Friday, our office staff ‘dress down’ and wear casual clothes. Each person donates £1 to our chosen charity for taking part in dress down day. In 2020, our chosen charity was Newcastle-Staffs foodbank, and in 2021 we’re supporting Mothers Mind (Staffordshire). So far this year we’ve raised £488.26 from the £1 collections.

Mothers Mind (Staffordshire) is a peer support group in Stoke-on-Trent for new mums experiencing mental health issues after giving birth. The charity provides essential nurturing peer support in an informal setting during the perinatal period. They offer a safe space to talk openly about feelings and emotions as mums journey through motherhood.
