Does your company need to gain a formal health and safety accreditation? If so GBS health and Safety Services are here to help.
Contractors may need formal health and safety accreditation for a number of reasons. Typically these include:
- Pre-qualification tendering
- Client demands for external verification
- Desire to stand out from your competitors
- Local authority contracting
External health and safety accreditation is a method of demonstrating that you have health and safety arrangements in place and that you are keeping records which are then available for external review, verification and then successful accreditation. Successful pre-qualification can be a very effective “licence to do business” in your industry sector.
There is now an ‘umbrella organisation’ which allows mutual recognition between most of the accreditation bodies which is called the Safety Schemes In Procurement which can be found here. A list of the participants can be found here.
Typically, all of the accreditation bodies will need to see evidence of:
- H&S Policy and arrangements
- General task based risk assessments
- Records of staff training (CSCS etc)
- First aid training
- Evidence of H&S monitoring
- Completed method statements
- Accident investigation arrangements
- Evidence of ongoing refresher training
- Asbestos training or risk assessment
- Fire risk assessment
- Manual handling assessments
- Hazardous substance risk assessments
- Evidence of competent advice
- Sub-contractor control / vetting
- Management training and commitment
- Accident statistics
- Tool-box-talks and other short training
- Construction phase plans
At eeuk we do not just complete the forms for you. This is not how it works and will not benefit you as a company. What we do is work with you to develop and implement a structured health and safety policy and to implement robust health and safety arrangements within your company. Without this you cannot receive accreditation and there is little or no point in applying for these accreditations until you have suitable arrangements in place as evidence is required at each stage of the process. In some cases companies have some or all of the above and need assistance ‘pulling it all together’ others require more help to develop and implement the systems in order to have evidence of compliance. Either way, all of the accreditations are accrediting YOUR health and safety arrangements so it must be YOU who implements the systems (with our assistance).
Once we are all confident that the health and safety policy is in place and there is sufficient evidence to support the application we proceed with the chosen pre-qualification providers assessment questionnaire.
Once accredited we are able to assist with ongoing advice and support and additional services where required in order to maintain the level of compliance and to ensure that the systems remain in place – producing enough evidence for the annual reviews.
We have helped numerous companies with successful accreditations and have also been accredited ourselves so we know what is required through personal experience!
